Pre-K Kids In The Garden Program

A permaculture based gardening program for Pre-K kids aged 2 - 4 years.

Pre-K Kids In The Garden Program (9 week term)

$135 per term first child, $115 per term each subsequent child from same family.

Age range- 2 years to 4 years

Mondays 10:15am-11:15

Class dates- 22nd July, 29th July, 12th Aug, 19th Aug, 26th Aug, 2nd Sep, 9 Sep, 16th Sep, 23rd Sep

Fridays 1pm-2pm

Week 1

Worms at work. We will learn about the important jobs worms do in our garden. We will check our worm towers and dig up some wiggly worms to investigate.

Water and weed the garden.

Visit with the chickens, sheep and goats. Feed carrots to the ponies.

Week 2

Soil life. Life begins with soil and soil is full of life. We will learn how soil is made, what lives beneath the soil and how important soil is for our environment and garden. We will add nutrients to our garden soil in preparation for spring planting.

Water and weed the garden.

Visit with the chickens, sheep and goats. Feed carrots to the ponies.

Week 3

Spring seed sowing. We will learn about what food grows in spring. We will sow spring seedlings to grow in our greenhouse in preparation for spring planting.

Week 4

Pest or Guest. We will learn about pests in the garden. We will go on a bug hunt around the garden and remove all the unwanted guests.

We will investigate the bugs we have collected and learn about their life cycle.

Week 5

Harvesting and cooking. Today we will learn about food miles and go shopping in our garden. We will collect the eggs from the cooks, harvest some vegetables and cook a frittata together to share and enjoy in the garden.

Week 6

No waste garden. We will learn about what happens to waste we produce in our homes and garden and how we could turn our waste into something useful instead of landfill.

Week 7

Baby Goats. We will learn about the needs of baby goats and what’s involved in caring for them as a goat owner. We will visit with our pregnant goats and HOPEFULLY have baby goat cuddles if one of our goats has had her babies by this class date.

Week 8

Chicken Care. We will learn what chickens can eat, what they need to be happy and healthy and what they give us in return.

We will make mealworm tacos for a treat for the chickens and collect the eggs.

Week 9

Butterfly Garden. Today we will learn about the important role of pollinators in the garden. We will sow a butterfly attracting garden to encourage butterflies into our garden.

We will have under cover wet weather activities organised

In case of severe weather-

Such as- Extreme heat, dangerous storms etc.. Classes may get canceled in the best interest of the health and safety of the children. If available, at the discretion of the facilitator, a makeup class may be offered in this instance.
