Combine the romance & excitement of a sea voyage with the nostalgia & style of a heritage train onboard Steamrail Victoria's Rail and Sail. Choose your way to travel on a day return journey between Melbourne and Geelong.

A great day out for the whole family; with Steamrail Victoria's Rail and Sail tour providing three exciting options for you to choose from:
RAIL FIRST Rail First from Melbourne (Southern Cross) to Geelong and Return by Sail via Portarlington to Melbourne (Docklands)

These options are set out in more detail below.
 
1. Rail First from Melbourne, Southern Cross to Geelong and Return by Sail to Melbourne, Docklands (Rail First)

This option starts off with The Vintage Train departing from Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station at 10:40am. The train is scheduled to arrive in Geelong at 12:10pm.

You will then have time to explore Geelong and the waterfront, before making your way to Steampacket Pier (near Cunningham Pier) for the scheduled 4:00pm sailing of the ‘Geelong Flyer’.

Finish the afternoon off enjoying the homeward journey via Portarlington then across Port Phillip Bay and then up the Yarra River for an arrival at approximately 6:10pm at Docklands Terminal. Once again, a contrasting style to the morning’s rail journey.

2. Rail from Melbourne, Southern Cross to Geelong and Return to Melbourne, Southern Cross (Rail Only)

This option provides a return rail journey from Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station through to the coastal city of Geelong.

The forward journey gets underway with a 10:40am departure from Melbourne and an expected arrival time in Geelong of 12:10pm.

You then have close to four hours to explore Geelong and its magnificent waterfront.

In the afternoon the return journey will depart at 3:50pm from Geelong Railway Station and an arrive back at Melbourne's Southern Cross Station at 5:16pm.

3. Sail First from Melbourne, Docklands to Geelong and Return by Rail to Melbourne, Southern Cross (Sail First)

This option involves a 10:40am departure of the 'Geelong Flyer' from Docklands, only a 10 minute walk from Southern Cross Station (Docklands Terminal). Located behind Marvel Stadium, adjacent to the Bourke St/Harbour Esplanade Tram Stop.

The Geelong Flyer will cruise down the Yarra River and then travel across Port Phillip Bay providing the opportunity to take in views of the city and the bay that you would not normally see. The Geelong Flyer will run via Portarlington, then is scheduled to arrive at Steampacket Pier (near Cunningham Pier) in Geelong at approximately 12:50pm.

You will then have time to explore Geelong and it’s waterfront before heading back to the Geelong Railway Station for the 3:50pm departure of The Vintage Train, on its journey back to Melbourne, arriving at 5:16pm. A contrasting journey to the morning’s sail on the bay.

GEELONG FLYER - PORT PHILLIP FERRIES

Using one of Port Phillip Ferries state-of-the-art, purpose-built vessels cater to all the creature comforts, with friendly staff, free Wi-Fi, charging stations, toilets, tables, and drop-down trays.

Each ferry has comfortable seating for 400 passengers. You can choose between the upper deck, lower deck, or two outside decks for fresh air or happy snaps.

A licensed café is on board both vessels, so you can get your coffee fix or enjoy a cheeky beer or wine during the journey. Other cold drinks and sweet and savoury snacks are also available.

Port Phillip Ferries are easily accessible for all via our boarding ramps, and they comfortably accommodate wheelchairs, motorised mobility scooters, and prams.

THE VINTAGE TRAIN

Ride with us onboard 'The Vintage Train’, fully restored by Steamrail as an important part of Victoria’s rail heritage. Our steam locomotives date from 1889 to 1952, while the carriages range from as early as 1906. The train features beautiful timber work & pressed-tin ceilings, walk-through corridors, comfortable compartment style seating, a licensed bar and kiosk, and toilets with washrooms. All rail seating is reserved.
